Collection - Quick Meal

Pork Shogayaki (Ginger Pork) is a thinly sliced sautéed pork with tasty sauce with ginger flavour. It's a very popular lunch menu in Japan.

Zosui (雑炊) is a Japanese version of congee. Rice is cooked in flavoured soup with vegetables, egg and sometimes meat or fish. It is often made using the soup from the hot pot to wrap up the wonderful meal of the day. You can imagine how good the soup from the hot pot would be, can’t you?

A super easy Japanese stir fry from Okinawa, goya chanpuru is full of bonito flakes, which is unique for a stir fry dish and so flavoursome that you will get addicted to it. It is not greasy at all and my version is made with pork slices instead of SPAM which is the real version of goya chanpuru.

You will be surprised to learn that the texture of potatoes when quickly stir fried is so unique and different from the cooked potatoes you know. Pork and potato stir fry turns the potatoes into something totally different from the usual dishes like baked potatoes, potato salads and mashed potatoes. And it is so quick to make and yummy.

Zaru soba (cold soba noodles) is the best way to eat soba (buckwheat) noodles. Zaru soba is the simplest form of eating noodles and so fast to make. It is a popular summer dish in Japan of course but if you want to be like a connoisseur and enjoy the soba itself, then eat cold even in winter. Use konbu dashi to make it a perfect vegetarian dish.

Home-made temakizushi (手巻き寿司) looks fancy but is very easy to prepare Cut the sushi fillings, display everything on the table and let the crowd serve themselves. It is fun and great for a little party with family and friends.

Temakizushi (Hand rolled sushi)

One of the most popular Japanese hot pot dishes, sukiyaki (すき焼き) is great for get-together with friends and family. Cooking thinly sliced beef, tofu and vegetables in sweet soy sauce flavour over a portable cooktop on the table is so much fun. It is quick to prepare and so tasty.

Japanese Salmon (Mirinzuke) - Simply marinating salmon with mirin, soy sauce and sugar will transform the salmon to a different level. All you need is time to marinate. The grilled salmon mirin-zuke is yummy even when it’s cold. http://japan.recpetineats.com

I was born and raised in Japan and migrated to Australia with my family in 1981. I got tired of my kids constantly asking me for their favourite Japanese recipes, so I decided to collate them in one place so they can help themselves - and now you can too! Read More…
